Chapter Seven

You should destroy her, the voice inside of him said casually. It babbled near constantly now, and he detested every second of it more than ever before. Paired with the agony that crippled him from the inside, he found it hard to focus. The only thought that would hold steady in his mind was her—his intended.

There is nothing worse than a false hope. Eliminate it now before it hurts you any further.

“I wish you would be quiet,” he said aloud. His study was empty, and he’d been there for hours. If Percival was around, he was sure he’d believe he’d finally gone insane.

Quiet is for the weak. The strong take action, and aren’t afraid of the words they speak. Perhaps it’s time for you to grow strong and take action, as I do.

“You haven’t acted since you turned me into this hideous beast,” he uttered. “All you do is cause despair and suffering. You are best to leave me.”

His time would be better spent in other ways, elsewhere.

Your time is best spent giving in and indulging in your true nature. Remember how good it was when you killed that weak king you’d sworn to serve? How about that simpering old fool who poisoned the ears of your pathetic liege? Let it all go and paint this land crimson.

The thoughts were troublesome. He ignored them and exited the study, heading down the stairs and toward the front door. On the way through the manor he passed his guest’s room, and he realized that a week had passed, and he had yet to learn her name.

The two of them spent their time apart from one another, for the most part. Following the happening in the garden, she kept to herself. He dined with her, but those meals were spent in awkward silence. He consumed his food quickly, feigning interest in what
